US President Donald Trump has dispatched an envoy to meet with Mali's President Assimi Goita. This comes after the same envoy, Mr. William B. Stevens, was sent to Burkina Faso last month to meet with Captain Ibrahim Traoré. 

During that visit Stevens met with Burkina Faso's Minister of Foreign Affairs, not Traoré himself, to deliver President Trump’s message following accusations made by General Langley against Traoré. 

Upon receiving the US message, the Burkina Faso government made it clear that any repair of relations with the United States would require an open apology from the US for spreading false information about Captain Traoré
