Oracles and external data – Chainlink integration and more than just Polkadot

Why does Polkadot need oracles?

Blockchain is an isolated environment that cannot access the outside world without the help of special mechanisms. In order for DeFi protocols to use currency rates, NFT services to use metadata, and DAOs to use votes from third-party systems, oracles are needed tools that securely deliver external data to the blockchain

Chainlink: the flagship among oracles

In @Polkadot , integration with Chainlink allows you to obtain reliable and verified data from the real world for example, asset prices, event results, or weather indicators. Chainlink uses a decentralized network of nodes to avoid manipulation and ensure maximum reliability. These oracles are already actively used on parachains for DeFi, NFT, and gaming

Other solutions: DIA, Band Protocol, iExec

In addition to Chainlink, alternative oracle solutions are also appearing in Polkadot:
 - DIA provides financial data from open sources;
 - Band Protocol works with a flexible feed system and adapts to the specifics of blockchains;
 - iExec allows you to request computing resources or private data on-demand, which is relevant for AI and big data

Use in the ecosystem

Oracles in Polkadot are already used in:

stablecoins (collateral control);

insurance protocols (calling external triggers);

games (randomization of events based on external sources);

DAO voting (verification of voter data)

Conclusion

@Polkadot is actively integrating leading oracle solutions to make its parachains “smarter” and closer to the real world. Chainlink and other projects form a bridge between the onchain and external events and it is on this bridge that new generations of DeFi, DAO, and Web3 services are emerging
