Successful Flight Trials of ULPGM-V3:

 Enhancing India’s Indigenous UAV-Launched Precision Missile Capability

X. Advanced Technology and Design

- ULPGM-V3 is the latest extended-range version in DRDO’s UAV-Launched Precision Guided Missile series, also referred to as ULM-ER.  

- Features a passive homing system with an imaging infrared (IR) seeker, providing “fire-and-forget” capability for precision targeting both day and night.  
- Weighs 12.5kg, making it lightweight and adaptable for integration with various aerial platforms, such as UAVs and drones.

X. Enhanced Performance and Capabilities

- Powered by a dual-thrust solid propulsion unit, ULPGM-V3 achieves an operational range of up to 4km during daytime and 2.5km at night. 
 
- Equipped with a two-way datalink, supporting post-launch target and aim-point updates, which increases flexibility and adaptability in real-time missions.  

- Can engage both moving and static targets, increasing its battlefield applicability.

X. Modular and Lethal Warhead Options

- The missile supports three modular warhead configurations:  

  - Anti-Armour Warhead: Capable of destroying modern armored vehicles equipped with Explosive Reactive Armour (ERA).  

  - Penetration-cum-Blast Warhead: Designed for anti-bunker use, penetrating fortified positions.  

  - Pre-Fragmentation Warhead: Creates a high-lethality zone for anti-personnel or area denial roles.
  
- These options make it highly versatile for diverse operational scenarios.

X. Indigenous Development and Strategic Partnership

- Entirely designed, developed, and tested by Indian DRDO laboratories with significant contributions from Indian start-ups, MSMEs, and key partners such as Adani Defence and Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL).  

- The missile’s successful testing and production represent a notable advancement in India’s drive toward self-reliance (Atmanirbhar Bharat) in defence technology, reducing dependency on foreign suppliers.  

- The successful trials affirm Indian industry’s readiness to absorb and manufacture critical defence technologies at scale.

X. Strategic Impact and Future Readiness

- Strengthens India’s precision strike and deterrent capabilities,especially in complex terrain and border regions. 
 
- The system’s integration with UAVs enhances capacities in surveillance, tactical support, and rapid response to battlefield threats.
