A group of Katima Mulilo residents in the Zambezi Region staged a demonstration and handed over a petition to the Katima Mulilo Town Council, protesting the council's exchange of land for vehicles.

The demonstrators also gave the town council's political office bearers until the end of business today to vacate their offices, threatening to close the council offices if their demands were not met.

The group, dominated by young people, demanded that the council withdraw all plots allocated to local Chinese businesses and other businesspeople in the town who hold multiple plots.

They also demanded that the town council provide a land allocation database and all documents related to land transactions by Thursday next week.

Katima Mulilo Deputy Mayor Lasken Sikosi received the petition on behalf of the council, promising to review it with his fellow councillors before responding to the residents as soon as possible.

The Katima Mulilo Town Council has been in the media since March of this year for alleged serious land mismanagement.
