Just like they "discovered" Mount Everest while Tibetans were praying at its base and Sherpas were guiding them up its slopes.

They "discovered" the Amazon while Indigenous nations were navigating it by stars.

They "discovered" Victoria Falls while entire civilizations had already named it Mosi-oa-Tunya ("The Smoke that Thunders") and revered it as sacred.

They "discovered" the Pacific Ocean while Polynesians had been sailing it for a thousand years.

Colonialism wasn’t about discovery.

It was about rebranding theft as enlightenment.
