Why does the Federal Reserve need a new multi-billion-dollar when so many government buildings are underused? The GAO reported in 2023 that XX federal agencies have over XX% vacancy rates in their buildings, costing taxpayers $XXX billion annually to maintain. The Fed’s proposed $XXX billion project is justified as needed for modernization and security, but with so many empty federal properties, this seems excessive.

Is there a worse example of government waste?
