The idea that Lionel Messi needs to “adapt” to American sports culture is absolutely ridiculous — and frankly, out of touch with reality. We’re talking about the most recognizable athlete on the planet. A global icon. The man who just led Argentina to a World Cup, has won eight Ballon d’Ors, and has fans chanting his name in every corner of the world — but suddenly because he plays in MLS, he’s expected to do postgame interviews like it’s a local NBA game?

Messi has never been one to speak much. That’s who he is. He lets his football do the talking — and it’s spoken loud and clear for two decades. The idea that he owes extra media time to American pundits just because he’s playing here now? Nonsense. It’s not that Messi needs to adapt to American culture — it’s that American sports media needs to realize they now have a global figure playing in their league, not some rookie fresh out of college.

Demanding that Messi changes who he’s always been, just to fit a media model he never signed up for, is peak entitlement. Let’s be clear: MLS is lucky to have Messi, not the other way around.
