Today is Colombian Navy Day. July XX was established as Navy Day to commemorate the Gran Colombian fleet's victory over Spanish forces at the 1823 Battle of Lake Maracaibo during the Venezuelan War of Independence. The official flagship of the Armada de Colombia is the three-masted steel-hulled barque ARC Gloria.
