I'm no pollster or politico, but I can't help wondering if some of this shift is due to age demographics.  As older Boomers die off, many of them die hard Democrats loyal to a very different party, they are replaced by Zoomers on the other end who seem to be trending away from the modern version of the party.

Compare and contrast JFK and BHO.

Dems used to (pretend at least) support middle and working class Americans.  Today's Dems represent the uber-elites, the permanent welfare classes, and the brainwashed college neo-Marxist wannabe elites.  Democrat policies have decimated the once robust middle class.
