For any of you that have been following me for awhile, you know that I have had a firm belief that those two institutions will be part of an overall movement of four to the SEC. Where I have had questions myself is in regards to which are the first two to move. I do believe the SEC will take two, then the B1G will take two, then possibly the SEC takes two more as well before things break wide open. So the question for me was always about whom joins UNC in moving to the SEC first. This controlled campaign could be telling us that it will be Clemson accompanying them in the first announcement. Of course, the rhetoric is still going to evolve to some degree so by no means is this set in stone. I know some folks have thought that the B1G would look at FSU and Clemson both. That never made sense to me for that conference and I have explained why multiple times. If anyone reading this does not understand why, feel free to ask in comments. Beyond that though, I did think that one of either FSU or Clemson would be taken by the B1G in order to make their two team addition worthwhile to the Networks. This is important because they also need to get Oregon and Washington to full pay status as well with this. So the importance, to me, of signaling this now means that FSU is going B1G and UNC is going SEC. UNC was the one brand that both the B1G and SEC likely coveted. When the Clemson and Notre Dame relationship going forward was announced, for me that was the final bit of value that got this over the finish line for everyone involved. That includes ESPN. I am looking forward to seeing what news comes out of the State of North Carolina with their Board of Governors. They have control over UNC's ability to do this. As things stand now, most folks would project this happening 2029/2030 with announcements maybe as soon as 2027. I have thought that the Governance Vote for Division I that is happening here shortly could start a domino effect of other events. That domino effect could very well lead to the negotiation windows with Network Partners being moved up. I think this decision to being the PR campaign stands a good chance of signaling to us that such is truly the case and they expect a favorable outcome at that Governance vote. Stay tuned.
