In 1945 the Soviets had about XXX divisions in the field against XXX for the allies. You can make all sorts of hypothetical cases for why the western allies might be able to cope with this, but the most likely outcome from “Unthinkable” would have been some sort of political collapse in the west from suffering a 7-digit number of casualties against an army that the public was assured was our great ally, which we had been funneling weapons and economic aid to. 

Such a war would have also required immediately rehabilitating and reconstituting the Wehrmacht which would have been politically disorienting in the extreme. Not clear that western governments would have survived this.
