The Daily Chief’s Notes from Day X of Chiefs Training Camp ☁️🏈

The ramp-up continues in St. Joseph, as Day X brought us another incremental increase in practice intensity — and a few more hints about how this 2025 Chiefs roster is beginning to take shape.

Let’s dive in. 👇

⸻

🌧️ Weather & Participation

Skies were overcast for most of the morning in St. Joe, with a light drizzle near the end of practice.

The PUP list remains unchanged:
• Jawaan Taylor (RT)
• Kristian Fulton (CB)
• Tre Harris (WR)

Once again, every other Chief practiced and, most importantly, came out healthy.

⸻

🧱 O-Line Stability & Rookie Progress

For the third straight day, the first-team offensive line held steady:
• Josh Simmons at LT
• Jaylon Moore at RT

Until Jawaan Taylor returns, this appears to be the plan. Simmons continues to stack valuable reps — and the staff is clearly committed to seeing what he can do as a long-term solution.

On the defensive side, rookie Omarr Norman-Lott rotated with the 1s all practice long. While we won’t get a true read on the DL until the pads come on, Spags moving him up is a very real sign he’s earned the coaching staff’s attention.

—

🔼 Young Players Getting Reps with the 1s

Three of yesterday’s biggest risers got even more opportunity today:
• Jalen Royals
• Brashard Smith
• Tyquan Thornton

All three were spotted taking first-team reps during install and team periods — and each made plays when called upon. Royals and Thornton in particular flashed early in team drills with standout catches that got the crowd going.

—

🐐 Kelce & Rice: Still the Staples

Once again, Rashee Rice led all receivers in total catches during team drills. He’s moving confidently, catching everything, and clearly earning Mahomes’ trust.

Travis Kelce wasn’t far behind. He remains a target monster in red zone drills and team periods — and there’s more juice in his legs this year.

🗣️ Andy Reid confirmed it post-practice:

Andy said that he can tell Trav’s in better shape this year and that he was near the front of the pack during conditioning.

If that’s true (and it sure looks like it), we might be in for another vintage year from No. XX.

—

🔥 Offensive Highlights

Here were some of the top plays from today’s team periods:
• 🎯 Mahomes to Xavier Worthy on another deep ball
• 🚀 Mahomes to Hollywood Brown over the middle on a big chunk play
• 😮 Tyquan Thornton made a high-difficulty sideline grab
• 🙌 Jalen Royals continued to make tough catches look routine
• 📥 Jake Briningstool hauled in a pass from Gardner Minshew — yet another example of him being in the right place at the right time

And speaking of Briningstool…

—

🎤 Andy Reid on Jake Briningstool

Coach Reid praised the rookie TE during his post-practice press conference, crediting GM Brett Veach for targeting him out of Clemson.

“He’s doing a good job. He’s growing some trust with all the quarterbacks.”

That’s high praise from a coach who rarely hands out compliments this early in camp.

—

🗓️ Looking Ahead to Day X

Friday will be the final practice before pads come on, and the team will be off Saturday before returning for padded work on Sunday.

We’ll be back at it again tomorrow at 9:15am ⏰

⸻

🏁 Final Thoughts

Three days in, we’re seeing clear trends emerge:
• Rashee Rice is locked in
• The young WRs are pushing for real roles
• Jake Briningstool might be more than just a camp body
• Kelce looks ready to remind everyone who he is
• And Omarr Norman-Lott is making the most of every rep

The competition will only intensify from here — and Sunday’s padded practice should be 🔥.

Until then, enjoy the rest day… and we’ll see you back tomorrow morning for Day X of The Daily Chief’s Training Camp Notes.
