By the end of this tweet, you’ll understand Shared sequencing for espresso.

🍁☕️
@EspressoSys is building the Espresso Network, a global confirmation layer that facilitates shared sequencing for Layer X (L2) rollups (like those on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, or Polygon).

🍁☕️
Shared sequencing means that instead of each rollup relying solely on its own sequencer to order transactions, rollups can use a decentralized, shared system (the Espresso Network) to coordinate and order transactions across multiple rollups.

This helps ensure consistency, interoperability, and efficiency in how transactions are processed across different blockchain ecosystems.

Each rollup (e.g., Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon) has its own sequencer that orders and processes transactions within its own ecosystem. These rollups operate independently for their internal transactions.

🍁☕️
But, when two or more rollups need to interact (e.g., transferring assets or executing a cross-chain smart contract), Espresso’s infrastructure kicks in.

The Espresso Network provides a shared sequencing layer to coordinate these interactions, ensuring transactions across rollups are ordered consistently and securely.

Through its HotShot consensus protocol, Espresso’s decentralized nodes (100 as of recent updates) agree on the order and validity of these cross-rollup transactions.

For example, if Rollup A sends a token to Rollup B, Espresso ensures the transaction is processed atomically (all-or-nothing) and that everyone agrees on the sequence (e.g., “this transaction from Rollup A came first”).
