We did not ask for heroes, yet for XXXXX years, Greece has continuously given birth to thousands of heroes so we will never be able to forget. From the Greco-Persian Wars to Alexander's campaigns, followed by the rise of the Roman Empire and the Fall of Constantinople and the Ottoman occupation. Then through the Greek War of Independence in 1821, the Greco-Turkish War of 1897, the Balkan Wars for freedom in 1912, and the Greek campaign to free our ancestral lands in Anatolia while we also reached XX km outside of Ankara in 1921. The Greco-Italian War of 1940, then against the Germans, a civil war thereafter against the Greek communists who cooperated with the Slavs that wanted to take from us the Macedonia, the Turkish invasion of Cyprus in 1974, and since then, ongoing daily threats to Greek sovereignty by our neighbors. In the meantime of all these, Greeks never stopped fighting. You would also find Greeks mercenaries in every foreign army and campaign or Greek assistance like in the Korean War when Greeks helped the Americans. There is no peace for a Greek. Never.
