Harris graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 2000 and earned her Wings of Gold in 2002. She became the first female pilot in the legendary Purple Foxes of Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 364, embodying courage and compassion. Over three tours in Iraq, Captain Harris flew perilous casualty evacuation missions in her CH-46 Sea Knight helicopter, saving countless lives by rushing into danger to aid wounded Marines and Iraqi citizens. On February 7, 2007—just days before her scheduled return home—the 28-year-old was killed when her helicopter was shot down by insurgents in Al Anbar province, claiming the lives of all seven aboard. Her selflessness and grace under pressure continue to inspire. We honor her sacrifice, her family, and the freedoms she defended.
