No matter what I do, no matter how many times I say I'm not interested in a post, whenever there's a new release, my timeline will be inundated with controversies and debate about the movie, its director, or its cast. I've been able to almost effortlessly drop out of pop culture and avoid "news" and discourse about music and TV, but not so for movies. I'm absolutely positive that the vast majority of engagement about these movies is astroturfed paid promotion and manufactured controversy in order to advertise new releases. I have no interest whatsoever in the latest superman or fantastic four movie, I don't think anyone I follow will actually watch either of them, but I've seen easily hundreds of posts about both of them.
