Canada. Zero opportunity to get ahead.

Did you know the minimum income req'd to qualify to get a mortgage and buy a home in Canada's largest cities (Vancouver and Toronto) is $220,000/year. This is just shy of what Canada considers super wealthy and any income earned above this are taxed at the marginal rate in excess of 50%. So good luck earning more to pay off that home.  Our marginal tax levels have NOT been indexed to inflation. And so we're getting absolutely hammered in this country leaving no room to buy a home or save for retirement as now we pay more in tax than shelter, food and clothing combined.
