Ledger Recovery Key is designed to address the practical challenges of securely storing a backup of your Secret Recovery Phrase.

While the original paper Recovery Sheet remains the foundational method of self-custody, it’s susceptible to loss, damage, human error (like smudges or typos), or theft. Ledger Recovery Key serves as a PIN-protected private backup, a supplemental safeguard that eases the burden of managing your Secret Recovery Phrase while keeping you in control.

By minimizing the need to frequently handle or expose your Recovery Phrase, it also reduces the risk of phishing and social engineering attacks. It’s not a replacement, but an added layer of protection to help more users confidently embrace self-custody.
