A court in Madhya Pradesh has sentenced a man to death for the brutal murder of his adoptive mother — drawing from the Ramayan, Guru Granth Sahib, Bible, and Quran to underscore the moral and societal impact of the crime. 

The judge said, “If the fence starts eating the crop, whom will the farmer trust?”, warning that such acts could deter childless couples from ever adopting.
