Thought Stylus was just for Rust or C++ devs? Think again!

@wakeuplabs is bringing AssemblyScript to the @arbitrum Stylus SDK, making it way easier for TypeScript and JavaScript devs to build smart contracts on Arbitrum.

πŸ’‘ Why This Matters

βœ… Most devs know TypeScript and not everyone wants to learn Rust.

βœ… AssemblyScript lowers the barrier to entry for Web3 development.

βœ… You still get the speed and efficiency that Stylus is known for.

By adding AssemblyScript to Stylus, WakeUp Labs is opening the doors for thousands more devs to build powerful, fast dApps on Arbitrum.

They aim to support over XX% of what the current Stylus SDK can do with a much more familiar syntax for JavaScript/TypeScript devs.

πŸ’‘ What’s Next?

βœ”οΈ Technical research

βœ”οΈ SDK design

βœ”οΈ Development in progress

βœ”οΈ Community updates via the Arbitrum DAO forum

They'll also track performance, usage and security to make sure everything aligns with what the Arbitrum community needs.

Check out this demo video:

This video shows an ERC-20 smart contract written entirely in TypeScript, compiled to WebAssembly and running on Arbitrum Stylus.

πŸ’‘ My Thoughts

This is a big move for the Arbitrum ecosystem. More devs, more flexibility and faster builds all without needing to learn a whole new language.

Stay tuned. Big things are coming.
