You’re making a category error here. Marriage is defined by God. Sex/gender is defined by God and natural law. Our laws should honor what has been defined by God. Membership in a nation or organization, however, is by definition defined and determined by the laws and leaders of that organization, and can be changed by the laws and leadership of that organization. It’s shouldn’t be arbitrary, and the laws should honor “nature and natures God” to the best of their ability, but there isn’t a God-ordained definition of “American.” That’s up for us to decide.
