I'm from the "baby boomer" generation. My parents were children living in New York while the holocaust took place. Even though I never saw those days, they still had a very great influence on my life.

1) I believe it had a very significant effect on the atmosphere in the U.S. in the decades that followed, namely it caused the swing towards "tolerance" that continues to this day. I believe we have gone too far in the opposite direction from what happened in Germany under the Nazis.

2) Personally, it helped to drive me towards religious belief. How could "we" constantly be the subject of such intensive attention, for better and worse, and yet survive over millennia? What causes that to happen?
