Last night, under the patronage of Her Excellency, Hon. Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, the President of Namibia, the Republic bore witness to the unveiling of its new fully upgraded banknote series and the first complete coin redesign since 1993. Currency is the silent ambassador of a nation’s identity. It is where our collective memory, cultural heritage and aspirations are immortalised, not only as legal tender, but also as emblems of unity and national pride. The upgraded banknotes feature modern aesthetics, vibrant colours, advanced security and tactile features for inclusivity, all while honouring revered national figures and our iconic wildlife. Notably, the N$10 and N$20 are now printed on a high-tech composite substrate, combining durability with the familiar feel cherished by Namibians. Additionally, for the first time since 1993, the coins have been reimagined to symbolise the pillars of our economy; agriculture, manufacturing and renewable energy, tourism, retail and mining. Her Excellency, Hon. Dr Nandi-Ndaitwah reflected, “When the Namibia Dollar was first launched in 1993, it marked a defining moment in our journey towards self-determination and the assertion of our own distinct national identity. The launch of this new series is not just a matter of updating our money; it is a statement of confidence in our economy and a reaffirmation of our sovereignty. These coins and notes are designed not just for durability but for identity, ensuring that every Namibian sees their story reflected in the money they hold. In their design, we see our past, present, and the promise of a dynamic, forward-looking Namibia.” XXX engagements **Related Topics** [currency](/topic/currency) [hon](/topic/hon) [namibia](/topic/namibia) [bank of](/topic/bank-of) [Post Link](https://x.com/BankofNamibia/status/1948283196287713462)
