@NEARProtocol is quietly pushing scalability to new territory.
At the core? Nightshade a dynamic sharding model built for horizontal scaling.
Here’s what makes it work, how it's different, and why it matters.

Nightshade isn’t just sharding.
It’s a design where the chain splits into parallel shards that scale with demand without fragmenting the network or requiring massive node resources.
Each shard = independent execution, unified consensus.

Here’s the trick:
All shards are part of one chain.
Unlike Polkadot (multi-chain relay) or Ethereum’s more siloed sharding plans, #NEARProtocol shards submit chunks to a single block.
This ensures atomic composability across contracts.

Each block contains:
One chunk per shard
A global header that links them all
This allows parallel processing without losing cross-shard consistency.
No need for trust bridges or external messaging layers.

$NEAR Nightshade design delivers:
Parallel execution
Sub 600ms finality
Low latency
Stateless smart contracts
Consistently low fees

Scalability without giving up decentralization or composability.

Nightshade rollout is structured in stages:
Phase X Single shard infra w sharding ready code
Phase X Chunk only producers + shard split
Phase X Full state sharding (each node only sees part of state)
This unlocks linear scalability.

As future phases expand shard counts and optimize chunk scheduling, Nightshade could support 100K+ TPS not in a lab, but on a live, permissionless chain.
It’s sharding done right not as a patch, but as protocol native architecture.
