Truly. I don’t usually respond to personal attacks. Silence has always been my preferred armor. But this time, I couldn’t hold it in. Because this wasn’t just about me. It was about my parents. Their lives. Their sacrifices. Their dignity. And when someone desecrates that, when they mock the memory of those who carried a war on their backs so I could carry a pen, I will respond. Not with anger, but with truth. My relationship with my father was complicated. I wasn’t an easy child. He wasn’t an easy man. We were both shaped by different battles. It wasn’t until after he passed, four years ago, that I began to truly understand what he carried. What he gave. What he endured in silence. And in that silence, I began to listen. Life has a way of teaching us through delay. Of revealing meaning only after the moment has passed. There are things I wish I had asked him. Words I wish I had said. But what I can do now is protect what he stood for. And ensure his story is never distorted by those who know nothing of its cost. This isn’t just my story. It is a shared memory. And I won’t let it be erased. There are millions of Vietnamese households who carry the same silence, the same grief, and the same unspoken pride. What I wrote was not only for my parents. It was for all of them too. So again, to all of you who stood by me: thank you. Not just for defending me, but for honoring the truth. You remind me that memory matters. That dignity still has defenders. And that silence, while powerful, is not always the answer. Some things are worth breaking it for. With respect and resolve. To all of you who’ve sent words of support, encouragement, and quiet solidarity, thank you.
