Think your home air is safe? Think again. 🏠💨

A study in Indoor Air (July 17, 2025) shows that common indoor fungi, even at levels below WHO or South Korean safety limits, can trigger lung inflammation in cell/animal models. Researchers used species-specific assays to reveal immune responses at concentrations previously thought “safe”—a clear signal that current indoor air standards may need tightening to truly protect respiratory health.

The biggest shock? These levels fall well below what's currently considered hazardous by indoor air quality standards.

People may believe their air is clean if it's within accepted thresholds, but this study shows that breathing even minimal levels of certain fungi could activate immune responses in the lungs in harmful ways, researchers explained.

It’s a wake-up call for anyone living with hidden mold or poor ventilation at home — especially if you suffer from asthma, allergies, or chronic sinus issues.
