Should the NBA introduce an "Offensive Player of the Year" award? 🤔

LeBron James thinks they should 🤯

In a recent episode of the Mind the Game podcast, he believes the NBA should adopt the NFL's model:

"I did think about how the NFL does Offensive Player of the Year and MVP. I thought that could possibly be something in our league, where you give an Offensive Player of the Year and MVP."

In the 2024 NFL season, Saquon Barkley won Offensive Player of the Year, while Josh Allen was named MVP.

With a QB typically winning MVP, the OPOY award usually goes to the best non-QB player on offense.

The NBA, meanwhile, gives out a Defensive Player of the Year award and an MVP award.

But the MVP criteria is often vague, and things like team success, voter fatigue, and intangibles also play a part.

If they chose to include Offensive Player of the Year, it could honor someone like Nikola Jokić in 2024-25, who had a special season statistically. And while MVP went to SGA, Jokić's incredible season would also be recognized.

Could this be a way to acknowledge both the "most valuable" player and the "best offensive" player in the NBA?

LeBron thinks it just might be necessary 🤷‍♂️
