My youngest sister bought a new @Tesla Model Y late last year because she really felt she could benefit from the use the help of FSD. She is not as confident driving as she used to be and has hard time seeing well at night.

She elected to go the subscription route to save the high upfront cost of FSD & was lucky enough to have benefitted from a generous promotional for FSD that essentially made it free for her until May.

She found FSD was definitely a huge help to her and allowed much more freedom to get to many places and often remarked at how great it was … I thought she was sold on FSD but when the promotional period ended, she decided $XX per month was too much for her budget despite all the benefits she was enjoying!

Now she no longer has FSD and her mobility has been greatly reduced. It seems silly but to her, as good as FSD is, she thinks the monthly cost is too high for her budget. She would rather lose some mobility than pay this much per month.

I think she is not alone in this line of thinking and in her age group. It’s frustrating to me because our mother, who lost her driving ability & with it, her independence would have likely made the same decision because she was on a fixed income.

The irony in all this is that those who are most likely to benefit from FSD are the least likely to accept it and/or are unwilling or unable to pay for it.
