.@ylanrich (CEO of Cala) on what it actually takes to build a robotics company in food.

Most restaurant automation startups never pay back a single installation.

“We are the only business that had proven incrementally positive return on investment on the whole investment of a restaurant. I think Sweetgreen is the only other.”

But he said building it in France came at a cost:

“The biggest mistake we made was definitely starting the business in Europe, in France specifically… the ecosystem is just not made for ambitious plays.”
