This is a textbook example of why you don’t adopt the Left’s language. Senator John Kennedy tries to redefine equity as “fairness”—but in doing so, he blurs the very distinction Harmeet Dhillon is trying to enforce.

Kennedy: “If I define equity as a state of fairness and impartiality… you believe in equity, don't you?”

Dhillon: “Well, equity is a proxy for discrimination, unfortunately.”

She clarifies what DEI really means in practice, “Quotas have become the proxy for that vaunted slogan... quotas and discrimination.”

Kennedy meant well, but Dhillon stayed on message. “Equity” is not fairness. It’s code for discrimination.

Senator Kennedy is usually a straight shooter on culture war stuff, but wow—his DEI messaging today was rough. Someone on his staff owes him a crash course in why we don’t try to redefine “equity.” Still, great to see him back in action after the health scare!
