I have also written a unique feature of the month Margashira while discussing Chola sea voyages.  It is during the month of Margashira the Orion's belt will be east west in Chola latitudes. 

This is why the month is called margashira. Because east-west direction needed for latitude sailing will be on top of your head! Sanskrit names have very deep civilizational memories.
