By no means am I against Catholicism. I don't believe in it and neither do my parents, but it is a sentimental ethnic thing for people from Irish, Polish and various Southern European backgrounds.

Being an ethnic Catholic (Italian and Iberian) me and my friends would go to Knights of Columbus where they would serve us booze underage and we ignored the NYC indoor smoking ban. Young guys, overwhelmingly white with the occasional cool "Latino" dude would hang out with old irish and italian union guys and firefighters talking about chicks they were banging and telling racist jokes. We would do nice things too, like collect christmas gifts for needy kids or raise money for people we knew who were sick or lost their job. It was a place to get each other jobs, make friends, and have community in a highly urban Queens environment. It's over and never coming back now, but it was great and has a lot of sentimental value for me.

That's what a genuine catholic experience looks like. These Rod and Todd types taking scripture literally and acting all sanctimonious are recent converts and just intuitively don't get what Catholicism is about. They are Jews with agendas or bringing Prot puritanical baggage into Catholic communities and it is frankly obnoxious.
