They dont have to.  Despite you not wanting to admit it, NC State is actually valuable enough to earn their way into the SEC alongside UNC.  Its just icing on the cake that taking them insures the SEC gets UNC and that B1G does not.  

Its the one thing the two conferences would probably battle over but as long as the SEC will take NC State, there is no battle.  B1G will concede.  

In a straight up numbers battle though, for the entire University, a direct comparison of the two conferences leads to a B1G win.
