The draft bill was passed back in 2016, which allowed for the PMU armed groups - some of whom are resistance organisations aligned with Iran - into the fold of Iraqi security forces. Now the US seeks to crush the passing of the PMC bill by Iraq’s council of representatives, which would disrupt an ongoing national reform process, meaning the US is again interfering with Iraqi internal affairs over the nations ties to its Eastern neighbour Iran. ⭕️Iraqi PM Mohammad al-Sudani shuts down a US attempt to get rid of an anti-ISIS force bill
US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, called Iraq’s leader and attempted to pressure him to abandon the Popular Mobilisation Commission (PMC) bill, that incorporates the PMU forces that liberated Iraq from ISIS into Baghdad’s security apparatus.
