A CIA officer said they “don’t have direct information that Putin wanted to get Trump elected” and the fragment lacked the clarity to support the claim. The ICA cited the fragment using only one interpretation, without addressing the fragment’s ambiguity, the source’s unclear access, or other possible explanations. The fragment came from a secondhand source and was tied to “counting on” a Trump win during the Republican primary, not the general election.
