It wouldn't be unsustainable if you went back to the economic model or the 50s 

Where mass majority of adults worked and paid into the pot 

Where it was frowned upon to take benefits and people would do anything they could to not need state help as people saw it deeply shameful, so the welfare state was minseclue 

And the population was about 20M less  

Not rocket science 

A manageable population 
Where little take out 
And most put in
