I read a recent piece from the Financial Times on cocoa.

Prices have hit record highs.

But farmers in Côte d’Ivoire, the world’s biggest producer, are still locked into fixed rates under the bocha system.

It’s a tough read. And a familiar one. Because once again, the people behind the product see none of the upside.

That disconnect, between market value and real livelihoods, is what happens when systems are too frictional and don’t have the right infrastructure in place.
