A lot of those officers would rather be policing their local communities, making a difference and engaging with the people. 
Instead they get called up to central London to stand guard outside a hotel whilst opposing groups mass outside because the Home Office has lost control of situation it created for itself. 
When you loose control you need more officers, when you need more officers its the local communities that suffer.
