It pitted the previous season's reigning NFL/Super Bowl champions against a team of collegiate all-stars — most of whom had already been drafted by NFL teams. With Pittsburgh leading the All-Stars 24-0, the game is suspended with 1:22 remaining in the third quarter due to a storm of biblical proportions — replete with lightning and sheets of torrential rain. Chaos ensues as fans pour out onto the field en masse — sliding and running around, tearing down Soldier Field's south end zone goalpost in the process. Officials then wisely decide to permanently suspend the game. After this 1976 contest, the NFL ceased having College All-Star Games because by that time its popularity (and gate attendance) had waned. In addition, NFL owners feared injuries for their already-signed rookie draft choices playing for the All-Stars. In the clip, an incredulous Frank Gifford and Bud Wilkinson detail the pandemonium for ABC Sports. #HereWeGo XXXXXX engagements **Related Topics** [pittsburgh steelers](/topic/pittsburgh-steelers) [nfl](/topic/nfl) [preseason](/topic/preseason) [Post Link](https://x.com/KevG163/status/1948058033541763157)
