#KENYA: KENYA SECURES DJIBOUTI MARKET FOR MIRAA IN MAJOR TRADE BREAKTHROUGH
Kenya has officially secured a new export market for miraa (khat) in Djibouti, marking a significant milestone for farmers and traders in miraa-growing regions such as Meru, Embu, and Tharaka Nithi. 

The Agriculture and Food Authority (AFA) announced the breakthrough following a Trade Mission to Djibouti in October 2024 and a reciprocal visit by Djiboutian officials in November 2024.

Under the new bilateral agreement, Kenyan exporters can now legally access the Djibouti market, provided they meet stringent regulatory requirements, including product quality standards and import permits. 

AFA Director General Bruno Linyiru urged traders to seize the opportunity and connect with buyers in Djibouti, emphasizing the potential for increased earnings and regional economic integration.
