We are still running a ~$2T budget deficit. The $1.6T in savings in the OBBB is over TEN years, so on average $160B a year. If it is applied uniformly over the ten years, it could drop the deficit to $1.84T in FY26. Add in $400B in tariff revenue, it goes down to $1.44T. We still have a huge problem but at least it’s directionally better than it would I have been under Biden (assuming Biden extended the Trump tax cuts since not doing so would lead to a recession).
