1969 X days before Nixon is sworn in, LBJ's AG Ramsey Clark denies Hoover the authorization to wiretap a long list of names. Hoover must have been thrilled. Since John Mitchell took over, this order was kind of pointless, it was just political theater. LBJ spanking Hoover? Why? Another trail to keep track off: did Mitchell approve Hoover's wiretaps? Did Hoover get off to a bad start with Nixon and maybe this caused Hoover to want to sabotage Nixon?
