This is the first conflict in modern history where human rights organisations have deliberately tried to hold civilians INSIDE a conflict zone - making sure they stayed in danger. It was better for them to have Gazan civilians trapped inside because it made it more difficult for Israel to operate. When most Gazans were in Rafah, there were calls from NGOs NOT TO open the southern border. It was absolutely sickening. This was not about 'saving lives' - it was about using Gazans as human shields - just as Hamas does. A big question that will never be answered. How many Gazan civilians would have fled to safety if they had a choice? If NGOS like UNRWA had called for the 'gates to be opened' - so Gazans could escape the conflict. Just like refugees did everywhere else. But UNRWA, like the anti-Israel activists DO NOT WANT Gazans to have that choice. They wanted the GATES CLOSED and they wanted Gazan civilians trapped.
