This move by Zelensky is alarming and undermines the very principles of transparency and independence that Ukraine has fought for since the Maidan revolution. Subordinating NABU and SAPO to the Prosecutor General’s control risks shielding corrupt elites and stifling accountability, especially when the bill was rushed through with minimal debate. While Zelensky claims it’s about rooting out Russian influence, the optics suggest a power grab that could protect his inner circle. The protests in Kyiv and beyond show the Ukrainian people see through this and are rightly demanding better. True justice means strengthening, not dismantling, independent anti-corruption efforts.
