If we’re stubborn, impulsive, impatient, etc. in real life, many of those same qualities will show up in our trading. That’s why it’s so important to self reflect, the market has a way of magnifying our tendencies. Many traders don’t lose because they have a flawed system. Most people can identify a good chart after a bit of practice. They lose sometimes because their decision making is compromised by traits they haven’t yet addressed. Holding losers too long out of pride, sizing up recklessly due to overconfidence, micromanaging due to impatience, exiting too early simply because of an inability to handle uncertainty, etc. are all common and stem from our personality traits. Improving as a trader often starts with getting brutally honest about our traits and addressing them so they don’t show up in our trading. That’s why it’s so important to self reflect, the market has a way of magnifying our tendencies.
