🧵 1/5 #OTD in 1954: a Cathay Pacific DC-4 [VR-HEU] is shootdown by Chinese AF La-11s near Hainan Island (China): XX of XX aboard died. After ditching, survivors were rescued by US Forces based in Philippines. Chinese military reportedly mistook DC-4 for a Taiwanese military aircraft.
