Yep, been dealing with it for years, we have implemented a couple things that have radically improved our organization:
X. Payday is Friday for approved work. To get paid on Friday you must be finished by Wednesday. This gives me and my supers Thursday to review work and make sure it’s complete before checks are issued.  Work done on Thursday and Friday get paid the following week Friday. 
X. Large invoices must be turned in before the 22nd of each month (20k or more). We bill all clients on the 25th, if you turn in a large invoice after the 25th you are on XX days net. 
X. Like you subs do most of our work, however, we also provide a huge percentage of each subs annual income. This means we have leverage, if subs want to keep working for us they follow the rules. 

We run our business cost plus on XX% O/P and gross about X mil a year. Staff is me, wife in the office, brother and X sons.,
