@optionsly Thanks! Hedging out via options when markets are frothy definitely feels like the right approach here. 

I've found it hard to optimize around taxes. Unless you/your-spouse plan on retiring, wouldn't you be incurring the tax hit sooner or later? Stocks are rarely forever holds.
