Yes, it is hands on like the trades. But is still higher education. So I’m still not sure what your argument is for. 

My position is that WITHOUT higher education (which yes - includes med school and residency as it’s the *only* path to get there) most people wouldn’t want professionals who are “self taught” in this field along with many.

So essentially you are agreeing with my point and I’m not sure what else to say to you.
