No it directly swaps it out. You can’t deposit btc to solana, by default. But lets say you want to swap btc to solana, you probably would have had to wrap it, to lets say wbtc on sol, which you will now be able to swap to sol 

But with portal you are directly swapping , the protocol takes the btc, and gives you sol. Just like when you use the swap feature on a dex.
